Hoonigans (Game Boy Color)

GAME OVERVIEW

Hoonigans is a top-down racing game which pays homage to the classic retro racers of yesteryear. The aim of the game is simple: prove your worth as you tackle the game's diverse array of tracks and challenges, and earn medals to unlock a host of characters, tracks, vehicles, and more!

The game comprises twelve challenging tracks, three playable characters, and a huge array of vehicles.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay in Hoonigans is incredibly straightforward: guide your vehicle around each track, cutting corners and avoiding potential hazards as you speed toward the finish line. The aim is to win the gold medal on each stage, allowing you to unlock additional tracks, characters, and vehicles as you progress.

CHARACTERS

Hoonigans features three playable characters, each with their own set of four tracks to master. The competition might be fierce, but remember - we're family!

CONTROLS

MENUS: The Dpad and A button are used for selecting menu items. In most situations the B button will return to the previous screen or exit the current menu.

IN-GAME: The Dpad is used exclusively for steering your car, with the A and B Buttons used to accelerate and brake respectively. The START Button brings up the PAUSE MENU.

CONTINUE / NEW GAME

After starting the game you are given the option to CONTINUE the game (with your previous progress in tact) or start a NEW GAME.

NOTE: Selecting NEW GAME will erase all previous progress!

CHARACTER SELECT

The Character Select screen allows you to choose between the three characters in the game (providing they have been unlocked previously). Each character has their own unique set of four tracks to master.

TRACK SELECT

The Track Select screen allows you to choose one of four different tracks for the currently-selected character (providing they have been unlocked previously). Highlighting a locked track will reveal information on the criteria required to unlock it.

CAR & PAINT SELECT

The Car & Paint Select screen allows you to choose a vehicle (providing they have been unlocked previously), as well as a custom paint job.

PAUSE MENU

Pressing the START button during the game will pause the action. From here, you can push UP or DOWN on the Dpad to choose RESTART, HELP, or QUIT. Press the A button to choose an option, or press the B button to exit and resume the game.

RUNNING THE GAME

 Hoonigans comes in two flavours: a GBC file (for the Game Boy Color), and POCKET (for the Analogue Pocket). The Game Boy Color ROM is designed for use with Game Boy emulators such as mGBA (compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Ubuntu) or a flash cartridge such as the EverDrive.
