Hero GP (Game Boy Color)
A downloadable game
GAME OVERVIEW
Hero GP is a 3D racing game which pays homage to the classic 3D retro racers of yesteryear. The aim of the game is simple: prove your worth as you compete in challenging races around the globe to become the ultimate racing champion.
That's it. Go play.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay in Hero GP is incredibly straightforward: traverse a myriad of challenging routes, overtake the competition, and try to reach the finish line before the time runs out. Once a stage is complete - and provided your finishing position is good enough - you'll unlock additional stages to try. Can you master them all?
CONTROLS
MENUS: The Dpad and A button are used for selecting menu items. In some situations the B button will return to the previous screen or exit the current menu.
IN-GAME: The Dpad (Left/Right) is used exclusively for steering your bike, with the A Button used to accelerate.
STAGE SELECT
The Stage Select screen shows the possible stages you can play - simply highlight a stage and press the A button to race. At the start of the game only Stage 1 is unlocked; selecting a locked stage will display the criteria required to unlock it.
PAUSE MENU
Pressing the START button during the game will pause the action. From here, you can push UP or DOWN on the Dpad to choose RESUME, RESTART, or QUIT. Press the A button to choose an option, or press the B button to exit and resume the game.

Phenomenal. Might be the best racer on GBC... except for OutRun GB.
I really, REALLY love racing games, but am really, REALLY bad at them. Are there any cheat codes available for this? I'd love to just idly tour different parts of the world!
TBH, the speed controls and collisions with other racers both feel a little bit off. Your bike accelerates/decelerates so rapidly that there's really no in-between full-throttle speed and a dead stop. That might not be much of a problem (most of us are going to drive at full throttle anyway) except that for inexplicable reasons your bike is much faster than the other racers in front of you, AND there's a relatively short draw-in distance for those racers you're about to pass, AND you crash immediately if you bump wheels, although the other racer continues on unscathed. I assume those were all deliberate choices to make sure you're encountering "obstacles" at a predictable rate, but the net effect just saps the fun factor for me. Part of the problem is that this just doesn't work well with the small screen; the original arcade games didn't feel this bad because they offered better resolution to spot the upcoming racers and more horizontal room on the track to avoid them.
I'm not upset about paying $2 for this, but I think it would be a far more addictive game if your bike simply wobbled (requiring quick reflexes to stay on the track), lost speed, and/or took "damage" (perhaps only crashing after three or four collisions) after a collision, instead of crashing every single time. I think that would better compensate for the limitations of the GBC screen resolution.
I'm not normally a racing game player but I had to check this one out. This is Excellent! Great work on this fun game!🎩
Great game. We'll be doing a full review as part of our homebrew section in the next Issue of Fusion magazine. www.fusionretrobooks.com
Is there a demo rom available?
Unfortunately not!
I bought this game yesterday and had so much fun with it that I got all of the other games the developer made. Well, except for the puzzle games. It's a pick up and play game for a short session, i.e. perfect for the Game Boy when I'm bored with Dr. Mario. I also appreciate the rather light difficulty, making it not frustrating and absolutely doable to finish as a novice of these types of pseudo-3D-zooming type of games.
There are two things I'd like to see improved:
1. The game is so short that save games are not really necessary. If one had the option to at least delete the save and start from the beginning, that would add to the replay value and challenge.
2. I can't pause the game and restart while my guy is crashing or lying on the ground. After the fifth crash, it's kinda pointless to continue. It would be nice if I didn't have to wait for him to get up again.
Can't wait for the Outrun port!
Thanks for playing \o/ and checking out the other games too. !:)
Great job! Bought this to support great homebrews.
Thank you. !:)
Great job creating a fast-paced 3D hang-on-like for GBA, I'm enjoying it on my Chromatic!
Fantastic! !:)
Good!
Thanks !:)
Solid game. Clean build. Love it.
This has been one of the best homebrew experiences on the og GBC. A lot of games feel like they are built for play in emulation. This game is exceptional on its intended platform. I hope it gets a cart production!
Thanks for playing !:)
swear i used to play this on a phone
Thanks for all the work it took to make this game. Brilliant job. In a world full of soulless cash-grab triple-a turds this kind of labour of love gives us all hope :)
... and yes - absolutely do Outrun please!
Wow, thank you !:)
Thank you! !:)
The visuals while driving are peak! Well done
Thank you!
excellent! suggestion (maybe its in final game) when racer stops have an idle animation. PS im thinking of makin my own racing game in gba but you showed me gbc can work too! Nice game!
Thanks for playing. Good idea. !:)
Great game, always loved racing games. This is a great flashback 10/10. I rarely listen to audio on most games anyways, i rock my own soundtrack.
Thanks for playing! !:) 🎸
Excellent as always! Amazing work.
Thank you very much !:)
Nice arcade racing game, no frills, right on point!
Thanks, Arcade Racing \o/
Another excellent game, nice. A steal at $
Thank you Sir Burger! !:)
Nice work! Congratulations.
What was your biggest challenge while creating this game ?
Thanks for playing! Biggest challenge was definitely getting everything to be FAST!
very good
Thanks !:)
Loved the game, very short and sweet
Thanks !:)
Thanks for playing !:) Out of curiosity what do you want the box art for?
I like to have box art to use with Delta since that’s the main display used for games.
Ah I see. I don't have box art but I do have Cart Art. How this?
👍
🍻
Quite impressive! And very fun!
Thank you! !:)
Amazing! Love it! 😍
\o/ Thank you! !:)
This game's PEAK
Thank you! \o/
Love it! One of the best looking moto racing games on the GBC, and one of the best racing games, period!
The only grip I'm having is how the game feels when you are not pressing A while racing. The bike comes to a halt instantly and so is the SFX. I expected some slower deceleration, and maybe some braking using the B button.
Kind of reminds me of Hang On on the Master System! :)
Fantastic game! And agree with the above, needs a little more deceleration when you are off the gas.
Maybe a boppin' tune like the title track for when you race too?
Fantastic sense of speed!
Thanks !:)
There's no in-game music because it slowed down the racing a tiny bit and, for this game, it was all about every last single frame of SPEED so I was AOK with making that sacrifice.
Thanks for playing !:) I'll have a look at the deceleration. I don't ever slow down while playing myself.
