Any plans on doing a physical release with someone? I think this deserves one.

Thanks for playing. We'd love to do a physical release someday. That's the ultimate goal for all Game Boy games !:)

This game is worth at least $5 to $10.  $1 for this ROM file is a bargain.  It is disappointing that people can't appreciate the hard work that goes into developing a game like this.  You should want to financially support the developer so they continue to make cool content like this in the future.

it’s not a problem at all, don’t worry😅

So you're telling me you can't afford $1? What a tightwad...

Go ahead and miss out on this.

Game of the year for the Gameboy so far - and a tough one to knock off the top spot, I hope! Awesome gameplay, awesome graphics, addictive and challenging all the way through!!!

Superb fun, thanks for scratching that Spelunky itch with dave and his multi-generational caves!

Brilliant game, though I will admit that having no background music does make the game feel like it's missing something. But other than that I'm having a blast with it!

Thanks for playing !:) I hear you about the music but it just took some frames per second away during gameplay so I made the decision to ditch it.

Really fun game for GBC. This is an instant classic and the replay factor with the procedural levels makes this the perfect pick up and play game. Great design/colors/retro, great music and sfx, and that sweet gameplay. I run this on the FPGBC with a flash cart.

I wish you could jump when you're at the top of a rope!

Hey thanks for the lovely review! \o/

I did add jumping from the top of a rope but then I took it out. It was making things a little too easy !:)

Thanks for playing!

so cool! Just wondering what programming language & tools were used to make this?

Thanks for playing! Cave Dave is made using GBStudio. I edited the engine, using GBDK2020, so it does certain things more efficiently. GBStudio is a really wonderful engine.

Picked this up after seeing videos from NicoPlaysIndies & Obscure Games and Consoles. It kinda makes me wish I had a GBC to play it on. Maybe Blaze will pick it for Evercade, would be a nice fit. It is a fun game and doesn't have Spelunky's stress factor which I appreciate.

Thanks! I have 2 other games on Evercade Indie Collection 4 (Block Droppin and Starseed) so maybe this'll make its way there also. !:)

I'm loving Cave Dave so far. Been playing it on my GBC and really enjoying myself.

One question. Is there a way to save, or is the game supposed to autosave? I unlocked three portals, had to shut down my Gameboy for a while, and when I turned it back on I was back at the beginning. Just curious if this is by design or if it's an error with my flash cart and my Funnyplaying GBC. I've had situations where I have to manually add a save file to my flashcart to allow some games to save. I have my flash cart set to a MBC 3/5 mapper right now.

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me. Great job on the game!

Hi, thanks for playing! !:)

Dave does indeed autosave. I don't have a Funnyplaying GBC but I do have - bth ... more than a sensible amount :) - of other Game Boys and the saving all works AOK. I've used flash carts to test also successfully.

Try add a save file like you've done with previous games and see if that sorts things.
